Swami Dheerananda is the last disciple directly initiated by Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda. He underwent the Brahmachari Training Course under the instruction of Swami Tejomayananda. In the year 1989, Swami Chinmayananda placed him as Resident Acharya in Chinmaya Mission Washington Regional Center.

Camp Fees and Deposit

  1. E-check (ACH) with no additional processing fees.
  2. Pay by credit card with a processing fee of 2% of the total due amount that will be charged to the member.

Registration and Cancellation Policy

All applications for the summer camp should be submitted online. The date on which you complete your registration online, including authorization for full payment of the amount due, will be considered your date of registration.

Refund Policy

  • Withdrawal On or Before June 1st, 2020: Full Refund (less $100 administration fee per child)
  • Withdrawal On or After June 1st, 2020: No Refund
  • PLEASE NOTE: Violation of  any of the terms and conditions will result in cancellation of enrollment without a refund.

Admissions

Register early! We only admit full-time (four weeks) participants. Chinmaya Mission reserves the right to accept or reject admission requests based on certain established internal criteria. Some admission criteria give preference to the children of Bala Vihar teachers, Sevaks with major responsibilities, members in good standing, major donors, age, date of online registration, etc. No further appeals will be entertained on admission decisions. Admission decisions will be finalized and communicated via email.

Volunteering as a Youth Counselor at the Chinmaya Mission Summer Camp is a fun and rewarding experience involving a wide variety of tasks and responsibilities. The primary job of the volunteers is to look after children under their care and help the camp run smoothly while fostering a fun and caring environment. Volunteers are expected to be role models for the younger children, exemplifying respect to elders, duty, and self-control.

Selection Criteria

  • Exemplify the Chinmaya Mission Pledge.
    • Ability to act as a good role model for all the Camp children.
    • Honor the dates once they have been committed to and accepted.
    • Be punctual.
  • Dress appropriately to set an example for the children.
    • Wear the volunteer uniform that will be provided.
    • Serve other children before serving oneself.
    • Follow instructions from teachers and other senior volunteers.
  • Outside private calls and Internet use are not permitted.
    • Ability to accept challenges.
    • Be friendly and helpful.
  • Strong organizational skills.
    • Exhibit leadership qualities.
  • Attend the mandatory Youth Volunteer training -TBA
    • Attendance at the orientation sessions is mandatory.
    • Failure to comply with instructions will lead to dismissal.

Duties for Youth Counselors

  • Class assistant—help class for the whole day.
  • Act as counselor and mentor for students whenever required.
  • Solve disputes between children to the extent you can handle. Cases that require the intervention of teachers/coordinator/director should be brought to their attention.
  • Responsible for the safety of the childrens’ group allotted to you throughout the day.
  • Supervise children during lunch time and supervise their cleaning of the area after lunch.
  • Serve snacks to children.
  • Help organize games and other sports for children.
  • Telephone and front desk coverage.
  • Promote a fun, positive, and inspiring camp experience for all.

LATE PICK-UP FEE POLICY :

When children are picked up late, the Volunteer Sevaks that must stay behind with your child are delayed from going home to their own families and responsibilities. Children must be picked up promptly. A late fee of $5 per family, will be assessed, starting at 5:16pm, and $5 additional for every additional increment of 5 minutes (Ex. pick-up between 5:16pm – 5:31pm = $10, etc.). No exceptions will be made.

Frequently Asked Questions

Youth Volunteers will be volunteering from 1-4 pm. They will be expected to attend Zoom classes with the campers where they will be monitoring behavior and offering assistance as needed.

Yes, Youth Volunteers will still earn community service hours for volunteering from 1-4 pm on the days that they volunteer.

We suggest that volunteers attend all 9 weeks of the national camp to take advantage of the educational opportunity. However, we only ask that they certify their attendance for the weeks they are serving. For example, if you volunteer during weeks 1 and 3, certification will only be required for weeks 1 and 3 though we suggest you attend all 9 weeks.

No, Youth Volunteers will not be volunteering with the Chinmaya Blossoms camp.

No, there is no additional payment if you are transferring to the online camp. After the transfer is complete the balance of the in-person camp fee will be mailed to you via check within 2 weeks.

The national camp registration is separate from the registration for the CMWRC camp. Even if you were registered for the in-person camp you have to register for the e-Bala Vihar camp separately. You can find the registration for the e-Bala Vihar camp here.

Though the theme is the same the content is very different.

The morning camp will have 30 minutes of yoga, 1 hour of class on the theme of Mahabharata, and a rotating activity each day for the last 30 minutes.

In the afternoon they will have lunch and monitored social time from 1-2 pm and then an activity/project-driven class with the dance, art, yoga or athletics instructor from 2-3 pm. The instruction will be live with a focus on movement and working with their hands. The students will then meet with the bhajan teachers and Swamiji for bhajan, chanting, and stories and their significance. They will end the day with Swamiji after closing prayers.

Lunch and monitored social time are from 1 PM and 2 PM. This allows students to attend one camp and be ready for the next one.

The children will have a dynamic 3 hours during the camp. This involves athletic activity with Coach K and dance class with Lucky Didi and her team and Yoga with Ms. Chelsea.

Yes, we plan to host a virtual parent orientation, mock class & tech-check on Saturday, June 6th.

The children have a monitored lunch and social hour and the coordinators encourage the children to eat during this time. No food is allowed during class though they can snack and go to the bathroom between classes.

All the verses for chanting, bhajans, closing, opening, and prayers before meals will be included in the binder that will be provided to the families before camp begins. It will also include activity sheets and likhita japa sheets for the students to do on a daily basis.

Every camper will receive a box of materials that include supplies for art projects, equipment for athletics, and their camp binder. Families are NOT expected to provide their own material. These boxes will be available for contactless pick-up on Sunday, June 7th.

The exercises and routines will be based on the age and developmental abilities of each age group. This will mean some overlap and some unique routines. Any specialized equipment needed for the routine will be provided to the families prior to the start of camp.

Yes, each week the children will follow a schedule that includes dance class with Lucky Didi.

Yes, this year’s summer camp program does feature Yoga.
