FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
If you are like most parents, you probably have a few questions about our Summer Camp, as you would about any summer camp. This page has answers to the most commonly-asked questions.
Q: My child is a rising first grader, but is only 5 years old. Can we still apply?
A: We are very sorry, but we cannot accept a child who is 5 years old. Our Camp is not designed for a child of 5 years even if the child is a rising first grader.

Q: I have two children and would like for both of them to attend Summer Camp as it will be easier for us to have both children at the same location. However, my younger one enters kindergarten this year and it says on your website that you only accept rising first graders to eighth graders.
A: We are very sorry, but we cannot accept the younger sibling. Our Camp is not designed for children who are 5 years old and entering kindergarten.

Q: We are not Chinmaya Mission members. What are the chances that my child will be accepted if we apply?
A: In the past, we have been able to admit non-Chinmaya Mission members also. So we would say your chances are good.
Q: We are traveling week 3 and week 4 of the Camp. Can I register my child for two weeks only?
A: The Camp activities are planned for four weeks. Your child will not benefit as much as a full-time registrant if s/he leaves the Camp early. We encourage and give priority to full-time camp students. For further details please contact the camp coordinator.
Q: What is the refund policy of the camp?
A: Please see below:
- Withdrawal On or Before April 15th, 2019: Full Refund (less $100 administration fee per child)
- Withdrawal between April 16th, 2019, and May 15th, 2019: 50% Refund
- Withdrawal On or After May 16th, 2019: No Refund
Q: I received a confirmation of acceptance for my older child, but you have placed my younger child on a wait list. When will we receive confirmation for our younger one?
A: We will make every effort to admit your younger child also. However, we cannot provide any guarantee for the younger child’s acceptance at this time.
Q: The payment transaction date is shown after the camp is over. Is that correct?
A: Please refer the Camp Fee section on the home page of the registration system for the explanation.
Parent Information Questions:
Q: We are not sure our child will be happy at the Camp. Can we stay with our child at the Camp?
A: We are sorry, but we do not allow parents to stay with the child during the Camp.
Q: Our child is still young and is not used to spending an entire day away from us. Can we pick her/him up by noon as she/he needs a nap in the afternoon?
A: The Camp is designed for full-day attendance only. A lot of fun activities are planned for the afternoons. We do not advise you to pick up your daughter at noon.
Q: What are the daily activities and what is the schedule?
A: The Chinmaya Mission Summer Camp (SC) offers children a summertime filled with fun and learning led by a strong team of Vedanta teachers from all over the world. Here are some of the activities the children enjoy during the Summer Camp are chanting Shlokas and Bhajans, inspiring stories from the scriptures, indoor games, dance and drama, outdoor sports, “Fun Fridays” and much more.
Q: What should I do/who should I inform if my child will be absent?
A: You can send an email to the camp coordinator of the respective chapter regarding any absences.
Q: What should I do/ who should I inform if my child is arriving late or leaving early?
A: You should inform in advance the camp coordinator via email to your chapter camp coordinator. Upon arrival at the camp please check-in with the onsite coordinator to let them know that the child has arrived or is departing early.
Q: My child will be picked up by a friend, who should I contact/inform about this change?
You should inform the on-site camp coordinator and provide a written authorization at/prior to the time of pickup. The written authorization may be emailed to the coordinator of the camp you enrolled your child(ren).

Q: Why do I have to contribute time on a Friday to the camp?
A: The camp is run mostly by volunteers. This way everyone benefits by keeping the costs down. Also, there are certain activities at the camp that require additional adults to be with the children. Volunteers help us during those activities.
Q: How does the Volunteer deposit work and once I volunteer how soon can I get my deposit back?
A: It is only an advance authorization and no amount is deducted upfront. If you fulfill your volunteer commitment, this authorization will lapse without any charge to you. If you did not fulfill your commitment, the amount will be taken from your account at the end of the camp. (The volunteer deposit amount is deferred until the end of the camp. If you fulfill your commitment, your credit card will not be charged. In this case, there is no need to give you your deposit back, because it was not taken in the first place.)
Q: What does a typical day at camp look like?
A: A general schedule has been created and this will be posted on the Summer Camp page on the Chinmaya Somnath website. A copy of the schedule will be provided in the binder that your child receives at Summer camp.
Q: I want to help with the camp, who do I contact?
A: Please contact the Camp Director or the Camp Coordinator.
Q: Where can I find the shlokas and bhajans that my child is learning in camp?
A: They will be posted in the forms and resources section of our website.
Q: How do I add my name to the email distribution list?
A: Your email address will be captured from your registration and automatically added to the distribution list.
Q: Who do I contact regarding my child’s medication needs?
A: Please provide that information in the Health Form when you register.
